ICT UNIVERSITY IN KOGI STATE

New ICT –focused university to open in Lokoja
Privately owned Salem University, with initial focus on Information, and Communication Technology will open in Lokoja, Kogi State, this month. Chancellor of the institution, Arch. Bishop Sam Amaga, disclosed this at a press briefing to announce preparations for its take-off. According to Amaga, the university is being established to realise global standard and compete favourably with universities in Europe.
He said apart from job creation in modern technology, the university had been designed to put a stop to the drift abroad by Nigerians in search of ICT technology. Bishop Amaga lamented that the country’s higher institutions had suffered great infrastructural neglect because of poor funding by government. To avoid this, he said over 70 percent of the cost of infrastructure at the university would be sourced through partnership arrangements that have been put in place to make it the best in the country. Salem University, according to Amaga which will take off with a student population of 360 has 29 approved programmes by National University Commission.
“The tuition fee per semester in the school is N175. 000”, Amaga said, describing the venture as a form of social responsibility to the society. Disclosing that there would be scholarship awards to indigent students and those who distinguish themselves, Amaga noted the arrangement would spur poor students who are brilliant to attain greater heights
